Croatia Tours

Croatia, in brief...

Croatia has a rich and complex history that has shaped its identity as a modern European nation.

The region that is now Croatia was inhabited by various Illyrian tribes in ancient times. It became a part of the Roman Empire, and several well-preserved Roman monuments can still be found in Croatia.

The Croats migrated to the region in the 7th century, and by the 9th century, the Kingdom of Croatia was established. In 1102, Croatia entered into a personal union with Hungary, forming the Kingdom of Hungary-Croatia.

Croatia came under Habsburg rule in the 16th century, facing both Ottoman and Venetian threats. The country experienced a blend of Central European and Mediterranean influences during this time.

After World War I, Croatia became part of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes, later renamed the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. During World War II, communists came into power, and Croatia became one of the six socialist republics within the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.

In 1991, Croatia declared independence from Yugoslavia, leading to the Croatian War of Independence. The conflict lasted until 1995, culminating in the successful military Operation Storm, which resulted in Croatian control over most of its territory. Since gaining independence, Croatia has undergone significant economic and political reforms. In 2013, it became a member of the European Union, and in 2023, it entered the Schengen zone and accepted the Euro as its domestic currency.

Croatia is home to several historic cities with well-preserved architecture. Apart from Dubrovnik, cities like Split (home to Diocletian's Palace), Zagreb (the capital), and Pula (with its Roman amphitheater), Zadar, Trogir, Sibenik, etc attract millions of tourists and history enthusiasts.

Croatia boasts a breathtaking coastline along the Adriatic Sea, dotted with picturesque islands, crystal-clear waters, and charming coastal towns. Dubrovnik, often called the "Pearl of the Adriatic," is a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its well-preserved medieval architecture.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Plitvice Lakes National Park is famous for its cascading lakes and waterfalls set amidst lush forests. It is a haven for nature lovers and hikers.

Croatia's combination of natural beauty, historical richness, and cultural diversity makes it a compelling destination for tourists worldwide. The country attracts visitors seeking a blend of history, relaxation, and outdoor activities.
